About Me

My photo
Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Nancy. I decided to retire early and my last day at the Fire District was December 31, 2020. My dream to do this pigs 'n poultry thing full time started on January 1, 2021. So far so good...

Stoopid, loser timepiece

Okay, maybe my watch isn't the problem. Today I yet again did not press the right button to start the timer so that my obsessive self could record my time during my run (fartlek). I did this on Tuesday as well when Tom and I went for the three miler....SHEESH! I have been able to press the correct button up until this point, perhaps I need an easier watch!

Good speed work today though, I understand the benefits of doing these workouts, but my "coach" (Tom) assures me that we will be upping the distance next week. Oh I look forward to a nice easy run... :)

Rest Day?

I had fully intended to make Sunday my rest day, but with the good weather - good in that the streets were dry and it wasn't raining when we looked outside - we decided to ride Sunday afternoon. It was a quick 12 miles, but there was a nice little climb that we did half way thru. I believe I have found my "climbing legs" well, at least for the mid-size moderate hills. That's pretty exciting!

So, now I am back to my Monday rest day this week and will run and do other miscellaneous workouts thru the week and TRY to make this Sunday a rest day.

It would be bad to beg for rain on Sunday...I think.

Speedwork...according to Frazz

Just found this little gem in my pictures folder...it seems fitting that I post this since I did a fartlek session this week - it was short, but it was still speedwork! Click on the comic to enlarge.

getting back on track

This week is a so far so good type of week. I ran pretty well on Tuesday, did some speedwork yesterday and pilates this morning. I like the pilates, it is a nice easy way to work my abs. I'll do some easy strength training tomorrow.

It's really time to get serious about this Duathlon...if I don't get with it, it won't happen :(

Training? What training?

The last week or so has been training "lite"...I thought about training though, so that should count for something!

During my week off from work last week I decided to not waste the gorgeous weather with running, but rode instead - that's the "lite" part because cycling is so easy compared to whatever else I really should be doing to get ready for the Du. What SHOULD I be doing? Probably running more, a little core training....strength training....hmmmm, it's time to get back on track.

I have to say that a year ago I was not even running a mile, straight...without stopping, so I am feeling pretty good about that, but I really want to be able to run a 10K at some point so I'll need to keep at it - make this running thing a more life long pursuit instead of a drudgery which I can easily think of running as.

As time goes on - with June 13th coming quickly - I know that I will have to get serious and that probably should be sooner than later. I'm psyched though, that hasn't changed - just need to get goin'!

The other really hard part is that there will be cycling events that I want to do, longer distance events, no more urban rides. The Monster Cookie Metric Century is coming up next month and then the RACC in May...we'll log over a 100 miles those two weekends (that is if we go for the 65 mile RACC). Also, as the weather improves I'll start bike commuting again, so I'll have to rearrange my running schedule for sure. With the weather being so crummy this week I think I'll be running more than riding :(

So much to do...so little time...PSYCHO!

Ride, Ride, Ride!

Haven't been running a whole lot this week - seems that with taking a break from work in the form of vacation I am also taking a break from running. Have been riding though, we rode on Sat, Sun, Tue and I rode with my friend Kristen yesterday. When Tom comes home we'll ride the same route that I rode yesterday only in reverse. The way that Kristen and I went was VERY hilly! We ended up hitting all the big hills in the direction that we went, but it was fun anyway. I'm glad that we did it...and so early in the year too, this could be a very good cycling year!

It's been fun riding with Kristen, we used to ride quite a bit during the summer that I was on chemo, things seemed to slow down a bit since she had son #2...I hope that we can start riding a little more as the year goes on.

Will have to start running again next week though. My asthma has been a little bit of a problem for the past week or so, making the running not that enjoyable :( I probably should start using one of my inhalers that helps with my allergies, things are starting to look spring like out there and I won't be able to do anything if I don't start the pulmicort now.

Good Week So Far

Took a week off from running to let my back rest and heal, probably the best decision I have ever made! Plus the pain and soreness of my back probably would have slowed me down quite a bit. Anyway, ran 2 on Tuesday and 3 today, just getting back into the groove. Felt really good today...very hopeful that I'll be back on track very soon. It's probably good to take a break now and again I suppose, but I'm so used to being on the go that it is hard to slow down!

Tomorrow MIGHT be a decent day, so I will pack up my backpack and ride to work! I'm looking forward to riding to work again...I hate driving!
